A story every home owner should hear

Here’s a story that I think not only every home owner, but everyone who uses and/or pays for a power bill should hear.

Warning- there might be some ‘politically triggering’ information in this story, and I’d like to ask folks to put those parts aside so that we can spend a little bit of time discussing the realities we face as energy consumers.

While this story focuses on Arizona, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), and APS (one of the largest power suppliers in Arizona), the basic issues of how power companies press for higher rates applies in nearly every location in the US.

All I’d like to point out here is how this is all taking place and how the process works. To me, the more home owners/power bill payers knowing about this the better for all of us.

This particular link shows ongoing coverage of the upcoming APS ‘rate case’ by a local news channel. It appears to be updating as I think the video yesterday was just a bit different- so you might want to return now and then to see updates.

Of course, I think that rooftop solar might be one alternative a home owner might want to look into… I don’t think I could call myself a self-described ‘garden variety solar enthusiast’ if I didn’t.

That said, there’s more a home owner can do, and at the end of the video there’s a bit of information on what/how to do that. I’ll leave that explanation to them (they do such a better job at video than I do!).
