A Red Flag to watch for

Hello again, back from the trip…

A story for another time will be our little stop in California at Salton Sea Beach- population 324… Fun was had.

Yesterday was my first full day back and I stumbled across yet another cautionary tale here in Az that I thought we might quickly take a look at.

Turns out there’s no shortage of ‘issues’ with getting contractors to do work on homes. It seems everyone out there talks a good game about how they’re better than the rest.

They’re attentive and responsive right up until they get the deposit, then all of a sudden there’s a lack of communication and eventually sometimes a complete disappearing of the contractor.

Unfortunately it appears to happen all too often, but at the same time- it isn’t the ‘norm’ in the home contractor (including solar) world, its just that when there’s a few bad actors it can seemingly flood the airwaves with stories of woe.

That all said, I think it is good/healthy to take a look at the ‘bad’ stories now and then so that we can keep our perspective honed to a sharp edge in an effort to protect ourselves from potential ‘issues’. (Fraud, negligence, incompetence- no matter, we want to watch for it all…)

Here’s story from yesterday that came out on the AZFamily | Arizona News that I find interesting, take note of what they say about the contractor’s license. (The ‘red flag’ to watch for)

Doesn’t matter what the service is- upgrade the kitchen, new bathroom, plumbing work, electrical work, solar power system install, landscaping, (especially) roofing… it is all susceptible to these issues and staying sharp will help minimize the risk of getting ‘caught’ by one of these scammers.

If you are looking into rooftop solar for your home or business, I have a book coming soon (eventually?) that discusses these and many other issues to watch out for.

P.S. If you didn’t know about the Salton Sea, it is a serious tale of woe surrounding California’s largest internal body of water that is rapidly deteriorating. Vice did a pretty good story on it and another lake…
