Tucson Solar Companies: What You Need to Know

If you live in Tucson, Arizona, you are lucky to enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine per year. This makes Tucson an ideal place for homeowners to install solar panels and benefit from clean, renewable energy. However, with so many solar companies not only in Tucson, but nationwide to choose from, how do you find the best one for your needs?

Hello! My name is Curtis and I created Tucson Solar Insider to help Tucson homeowners sift through all of the high pressure sales and technical complexity that has become rampant in the solar industry today. As a matter of fact, I think Tucson deserves better from the solar industry and my goal has become to make that happen as best I can.

Why Choose Solar Energy in Tucson?

Solar energy is a smart choice for homeowners in Tucson for many reasons. Here are some of the benefits of going solar in Tucson:

- Save money on your electricity bills: By installing solar panels on your roof, you can generate your own electricity for less cost than a regular bill from TEP. In fact, many Tucson homeowners find they can reduce their monthly TEP bill to a bare minimum and eventually pay off the solar power system with what they would have spent on the electricity bill.

- Gain energy independence: TEP is a monopoly. There is no other choice for electricity for a Tucson home owner. As the Arizona Corporation Commission allows, TEP can (and will) continue to raise electricity rates and we have essentially no say in the matter. Adding a home solar power system to your home can provide an alternative to being strictly stuck with TEP. Some Tucson homeowners also include batteries and in some cases can maintain power even when there is an outage.

- Help the environment: By going solar in Tucson, you can also reduce your carbon footprint and help fight climate change. Solar energy is a clean and renewable source of power that does not emit any greenhouse gasses or pollutants. By switching to solar energy, you can avoid using fossil fuels that contribute to global warming and air pollution.

- Earn incentives and tax credits: By going solar in Tucson, you can also take advantage of various incentives and tax credits that can make your investment more affordable. For example, you can claim a 30% federal tax credit on the cost of your system until 2032. You can also get up to a $1,000 state tax credit and some net metering benefits from TEP. These incentives lower the cost of a home solar power system and puts them in reach of several Tucson homeowners who would otherwise not be able to purchase them.

How to Choose a Solar Company in Tucson?

When looking for a solar company in Tucson, there are several factors that you should consider before making a decision on which one to use:

  • Reputation: This is the modern world with all sorts of online review platforms and other resources to check on the reputation of a Tucson solar company. The horror stories of bad actors in this industry especially mean we should all take extra time and precautions to investigate the reputation of any solar company.
  • Tucson Solar Company -or- not local: I am not saying that a national company that operates in the State of Arizona but isn’t an actual local Tucson solar company is any better or worse, but I am suggesting that working with local companies can help ensure you always have a local contact when things go wrong…
  • Products and warranties: Solar components are expensive electrical and electronics that can (and do) break down. Try to find a Tucson solar company that offers higher quality equipment that has top tier warranties.
  • Prices: In the solar industry, the lowest bidder is probably not the bid to favor… when 2 bids come in about the same and a third comes in 30% below the other two- beware. Make sure you understand the differences between the bids. Unscrupulous solar companies might try to shorten the total size of the system or use extremely cheap/low quality equipment so that they can underbid and leave you holding the bag.
  • Customer service and support: You want to work with a solar company that treats you with respect. Ask the hard questions about who provides what services and who pays and how to make calls/requests. Above all, trust your gut when talking to them about the ‘after care’. (It isn’t a rare thing to find a totally attentive and enthusiastic solar company that answers all questions right up until the install is complete and then becomes missing in action- not to be found).

Solar energy is a great option for homeowners in Tucson who want to save money on their electricity bills, earn incentives and tax credits to help lower the cost, gain some energy independence, and help the environment. However, choosing a Tucson solar company can be challenging as there are many factors to consider before making a decision.
